Nice Guys Finish Second

Trump grabs P., and still gets elected president.

Biden gets condemned for overly aggressive glad handing.

It is unfair, but it makes sense.

Republicans want someone strong. Democrats want someone "woke."  Sexual aggressiveness is judged as good for Trump. It is judged as bad for Democrats.

Posiiton of strength
Trump’s brand is Bad Boy, the big, macho, domineering alpha male rule-breaker, the guy who breaks norms and doesn’t get pushed around by the politically correct feminists. As the Bad Boy disrupter, his behavior toward women confirms his masculine power: adultery, three wives, walking into dressing rooms, grabbing P.

The Access Hollywood tape was a bit too far even for his friends, but it wasn’t disqualifying, not for Trump. It was another iteration of the B. S. D. persona Trump wanted to project. (Big Swinging Dick, a big Wall Street dealmaker, per Michael Lewis’ Liar’s Poker.)

Meanwhile, Biden is guilty of a fraction of what Trump is accused of, but for Democrats the laying on of hands is considered bad, not good. It is disqualifying, not qualifying.  It breaks the Democratic brand. Democrats are insisting their candidate be either a woman or Mr. Nice Guy, the evolved and woke man who understands and respects the evolving norms regarding gender relations. Democrats have staked their claim on political correctness.

Trump’s supporters like it when he is the willful Bad Boy; Democrats insist on a Nice Guy. That is the difference.

Readers who happen to have watched “Felicity," the WB Network 4 year series back about 1998-02 will understand the risks for Democrats. The show wasn't about politics, but it was about brands and choices of the kind voters are making now. It is instructive.

Chooses strong, not "nice."
The show involved a love triangle between Felicity, played by Keri Russell, the beautiful college student at a NYU look-alike college.  She wavered back and forth between Bad Boy, Ben, a tall and ruggedly good looking guy who kept getting into alcohol and gambling and other alpha male trouble, and Mr. Nice Guy, Noel, the earnest, sweet, steady, loyal one, the respectful one, also very good looking, but cute and softer.

The Felicity character eventually chose Ben. Sure, he fathered a child with someone else, and he dropped out of school, and was untrustworthy,  but he was the alpha guy. He was willful and strong.

The Nice Guy finished second.

If Biden can get pushed around and shamed by Warren and Gellibrand and NY Times op-ed writers, and that is exactly what is happening, think how easily he will get pushed around by China and Russia and a Republican senate. That is the silent message being delivered right now.

Biden is being shamed for not being "woke" enough. Either way is bad for him, and the very discussion positions him as weak. He is the guy in trouble, sweating under the bright lights, the guy being judged and trying to make amends, saying he will be better.
The strong role would be to be the guy pointing the finger of accusation or the judge making the decision. Biden is the one saying "I'm woke! Really, I'm woke."  It looks weak.

OK, he kisses everybody...I would say there is a difference between kissing guys on the head and women.

With women it's either a fatherly, comforting "I will protect you", gesture or "Hey, I find you attractive, lucky you!" Neither is particularly redeeming. Some women welcome the attention, some know better. Regressive women have Stockholm syndrome on this issue.

With men it's simple Alpha dominance, and probably done selectively.

A hug between friends is a gesture of acceptance and companionship, a moment to acknowledge our mutual shared experience. The non-sexual kiss is a European thing Americans have culturally adopted whose origin I believe is in the aristocracy, and may well be a power display. Who kisses who, when, where and how is determined by rank. Let's not forget that the King had his choice of maidens in the realm.

At any rate, Biden and Franken before him, are victims of their own lack of situational awareness, which as we know can be fatal, as shown by that video of the lion and the deer.

Joe Biden is too old school on sooo many levels. The blind hope that he will return us to the nostalgic Bromance days of Joe and Barry O. are pure fantasy.

Once again the left is racing to defeat. I'm lifting this from an article I read today. "Democrats think the best answer to an angry old white guy with crazy hair, New York accent and flair for demagoguery is another angry old white guy with crazy hair, New York accent and flair for demagoguery." (Dana Milbank). This couldn't be truer.

The left's new found purity tests have proven to be a very effective tool for the right.

Welcome to the new normal. As I said yesterday, the patriarchy is getting a wake up call.
Biden is taking a hit for "the team," in that sense, and he won't be the last.

Meanwhile, the "macho," "real men" seem to get passes...even as they make them. I say "seem" because the arc of history bends toward justice which means these guys are fast becoming dinosaurs, IMHO.

Women can be nurturing and strong (think Elizabeth Warren). Men can be strong and nurturing (think Bernie Sanders). Men no longer have to choose between emulating Alan Alda or John Wayne. We can bring home the bacon/ Fry it up in a pan/ Change the kids' diapers/ even marry a man...

Andy Seles,

Jan 16, 2019 - (CNN)Sen. Bernie Sanders and senior aides met on Wednesday with a group of women and men who requested a face-to-face discussion about what they described as "the issue of sexual violence and harassment" on the Vermont independent's 2016 presidential primary campaign.

The Sanders campaign hardly a "strong and nurturing" Environment. You may want to review his rape essay as well.
