Circuit Court Judge Joe Charter wrote Governor Tina Kotek on Friday, announcing his decision to retire as Jackson County District Court Judge as of May 1, 2023.
He was elected to the position in November, 2022.
No further information is available from Charter. He texted that he is traveling and that his phone is on airplane mode.

Correction: He was elected May 2020 and took office January 2021.
How will his position be filled ? Will it be special election, perhaps in May ? And what happens to cases pending before his Court ?
Too bad we don't have a paper to pursue those questions.
