What Charlie Kirk said

See it yourself:

Here is what Charlie Kirk really said about Black women, brain power, and affirmative action.

Vice President JD Vance said "the left" was lying about Charlie Kirk. On Monday, Vance filled in as host of Kirk's show. Vance said that an "esteemed" magazine, The Nation, ran an article that was an example of the "incredibly destructive movement of left wing extremism." Vance said the article put words in Kirk's mouth, and tried to make him look racist. Vance said that the article constituted hate speech of the kind that caused Kirk's assassination.

There is no secret to what Kirk said and how he said it. Here is a clip -- two minutes, 18 seconds. I have a transcript below, but it is better to watch him because his inflections and manner are a part of the message. I think he is sneering and insulting, but you be the judge.

Click: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uK2Lwr1pB04

Here is a transcript:

Kirk: You know if we would've said three weeks ago we would've said that Joy Read and Michelle Obama and Sheila Jackson Lee, and Ketanji Brown Jackson were affirmative action pics would've been called r-r-r-racist, but now they're coming out and they're saying it for us. They're coming out and they're saying 'I'm only here because of affirmative action.' We know. You do not have the brain processing power to otherwise be taken really seriously. You had to go steal a white person's slot to go be taken somewhat seriously.

[To producer]: Play cut 52

[On screen, Sheila Jackson Lee, (D) Texas]

I rise today as a clear recipient of affirmative action, particularly in higher education. I may have been admitted on affirmative action, both in terms of being a woman and a woman of color, but I can declare that I did not graduate on affirmative action. This is my personal story.

Kirk: I hear 'because of action affirmative.' She can't even say [laughs] We know, we know. It's very obvious to us that you were not smart enough to be able to make it on your own. [Voicing Rep. Lee]: 'I couldn't make it on my own so I needed to take opportunities from someone more deserving.'

You know this is how arrogant Joy Read and Ketanji Brown Jackson and Michelle Obama and Sheila Jackson Lee are. They are so narcissistic they think this is persuasive. They think, 'Of course that's why we need affirmative action because you have impressed us with your brilliance. Of course! Oh no! Imagine the world without Joy Reid. Imagine the world without Sheila Jackson Lee, or Michelle Obama, or Ketanji Brown Jackson.'

They think this is persuasive. They think as they kind of reveal that I'm only here because of anti-White, anti-Asian forced discrimination policies that turned me into a bitter resentful activist that hates White people, honestly, through our policies.

Readers can make up their own mind about whether Kirk is a racist arrogant jerk, or a straight-talking truth-teller.

Kirk was a mouthpiece for Trump. Kirk said what President Trump says in multiple contexts, that Blacks -- especially Black women -- are "low IQ," are undeserving of the positions they may hold, and that they unfairly displaced more qualified White men.

I expect that many of my readers will be disgusted by Kirk. I dislike his sneering. But I sense that Kirk's point of view is a net-positive for Trump. He is expressing the discomfort of many Americans with the new look of America, which they think Democrats forced on the country with a loose immigration policy and a bend-over-backwards effort to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. He has peremptorily fired highly placed Black women in the civilian and military service without cause.

As I wrote yesterday, men -- especially White men -- felt disrespected and displaced by the tides of demography and social justice, encouraged as part of Democratic policy. Trump is returning America to an earlier version of itself, where men -- especially White men -- were by default and social norm the people in charge. Women, particularly Black women, would be back in their place.

Republicans used to pretend they weren’t racist with Regan, but now they are open about it as long as you don’t say they are racist.

I had never heard of Kirk until he was assassinated, and the more I learn about him, the happier I am that I hadn’t. We all could use a little more love, joy and willingness to help the less fortunate in our lives. It sounds like he offered the opposite. It’s basically the same old post-reconstruction theme of the Confederate South about keeping Blacks in their place. That so many people are so enamored of this message explains a lot about the state our country is in.

Yesterday in a hearing Kash Patel succeeded in instigating a shouting match with Senator Adam Schiff that degenerated into a trading of insults that bordered on profanity. With this level of discourse now commonplace one could also say "mentally ill young man with a gun or brave freedom fighter" ("racist arrogant jerk, or a straight-talking truth-teller.") You decide? Is it either? Really?

He was just another hate monger, another Rush Limbaugh. Read all about it (as mentioned in comments on previous blogs):

"Angry White Men" (book) by sociologist Michael Kimmel (who is white and heterosexual, btw).

Charlie Kirk in 2023: "Jews have been some of the largest funders of cultural Marxist ideas and supporters of those ideas over the last 30 or 40 years." The Trump administration's rationale for defunding Harvard is that Harvard, as an institution, is guilty of antisemitism and that antisemitism is bad. Don't ask me "What's your point?"

The irony is that Kirk was a community college dropout after just one semester, yet ridiculed those with accomplished academic records.

I had to look up Sheila Lee. She was admitted to NYU under affirmative action, but transferred to Yale (no small feat); her LSATs got her into UVA Law where she earned her JD, was a judge, then unseated an incumbent, yet Kirk mocked her little verbal stumble as intellectually unfit. All this from a party that denigrates intellectuals.

Like Mike, I had never heard of Kirk before last week. But hearing of his fame and influence helps me understand the worldviews of the far right better.

I also never heard of the guy until he was gunned down. Turns out he was a religious freak, white arrogant asshole who loved Trump and everything Trump stood for. He wore a bullet proof vest because he knew he might be a target. Turns out he was right about something.

I no longer have a copy of this book, but according to the internet it was published in 2013 with a second edition in 2017.

The bottom line is that the "angry white men" that Kimmel wrote about are highly entitled (correct).

Differences between variously defined groups are the hottest topic. Touch them, and you are likely to get burned. Almost no one wants to go there.

But DEI demands that we go there and assert that there are no differences between groups. This isn’t an explicit demand; it’s an implication of the demand that every field of human endeavor has to exactly represent the demographic proportions of every group.

You don’t have enough black programmers! How many should we have? 13%. How come? Because 13% of the population is black.

I would be perfectly happy to leave this topic alone, and just hire people who knew how to write code, regardless of their color or sex or whatever. But DEI demands that I not do that. DEI demands that I put my thumb on the racial scale and discriminate against some group groups (whites, Asians) so that I can discriminate in favor of others (blacks, Hispanics).

And I refuse to do that, and I also refused to be the victim of it.

Charlie Kirk was a podcaster trying to get clicks, as they all are. He did not phrase his opposition to affirmative action in a polite way, and I won't defend him.

But there are real problems with affirmative action. Ward Connerly, a successful businessman and black man, led the charge to end affirmative action in California public university admissions.
Too many Black and Latino students who probably would have thrived at Cal State Sacramento instead became drop-outs from UC Berkeley. It really is better to admit students of all colors into the university where they fit in and can meet expectations.

And, affirmative action breeds resentment and a dismissive attitude towards those assumed to be in their positions as a result of affirmative action.

Ann Coulter supports affirmative action for native Americans and black American descendants of slaves, because we owe them. Extending affirmative action preferences to the children of recent immigrants changed the meaning of why we are doing this in the first place. Joy Reid, daughter of highly educated immigrants from Africa, is not someone who was owed a debt from America that justified granting her a leg up over white working class kids. But such subtlety cannot be accounted for in check-the-box diversity policies.

Ron Unz, software genius and GOP gadfly, wrote a prophetic article in 1999: California and the End of White America • The unprecedented racial transformation of California and its political consequences. It predicts the conflicts we now see 25 years later, since we didn't follow his advice. Here's the concluding paragraphs:

It is therefore a tragedy of the first order that, even as the reality of the American melting pot remains as powerful as ever, the ideology behind it has almost disappeared, having been replaced by the “diversity” model and by the politics of grievance. A social ideology that allots to blacks and Latinos and Asians their own separatist institutions and suggested shares of society’s benefits cannot long be prevented from extending itself to whites as well, especially as whites become merely one minority among many minorities. Before it is altogether too late, those who support this status quo must realize that the diversity prescription contains the seeds of national dissolution.

America today stands as one of the very few examples in history of a large and successful multiethnic society. If we are to continue and extend our success–which is hardly foreordained–we can only do so by returning to the core principles of Propositions 209 and 227: ethnic assimilation, and individual equality under the law. Otherwise, we face the very real threat of future movements along the lines of Proposition 187, each worse than the last, and on a national scale. There are few forces that could so easily break America as the coming of white nationalism.

It was clear a week ago when this happened that none of you knew who Charlie Kirk was.
I've been watching his college debates for many years now. I was watching turning point USA's live coverage of the day that a trans deranged schizophrenic shot up a Christian School ....why do they always go after Christians?
Don't bother looking up the Christian genocides in the Middle East happening as I write.

All of you are like some Christian denominations that want to get rid of the Old testament completely, and only read the New testament.

There is no possible way to have any CONTEXT of who or what "Mashiach" is without the context of the Torah, and the struggle with God of the entire history of the Israelites.
Without the context of the entire Bible, including apocrypha, then Jesus is just another pagan God.

Those darn guns just go off without any provocation. Just so random.

The first thing a true dictator would do is take away your guns, and then stomp down on your freedom to speak your mind.
That is why the first and second amendment are literally two sides of a single GOD GIVEN Right.

I've seen this video many times, especially in the last week, and what Charlie says is true.
YOU need racism and encourage disdain for "the other", otherwise you have no platform.
You are all the black face of the KKK ...otherwise known as a Democrat
You all have spit on the grave of Martin Luther King because you all JUDGE a person based on their race. You deny the content of character. You extol the unworthy and idolize the criminal. You reach out your hand and dig into the grift because what is government to you other than a charity Ward to take from and fulfill your most salacious selfish desires.
Little do you realize your Masters have you on a tether.
You have made government your God, and your "God" considers you nothing more than a mindless clump of cells that can be aborted at whim.

Amoralism is the antithesis of morality

You take the words of Christ OUT OF CONTEXT and use them as a cudgel
Such vanity

Just in the same exact way that Peter takes a few words of Charlie Kirk ...out of context, and your vile hatred is justified.

"There are those who hate the one who upholds Justice in court, and detest the one who tells the truth"
- Amos 5, verse 10

Throughout the week we have seen all who celebrated, and we have been comforted by those who have been awakened.

Projection is a mental disorder in which individuals attribute their own unacceptable thoughts, feelings or behaviors to others. MAGA and White “Chistian” Nationalists are a bottomless cesspool of it.

A heads up: The Unz Review is a website and blog founded and edited by Ron Unz, an American far-right activist and Holocaust denier. It’s known for its publication of far-right, conspiracy theory and antisemitic writings.

Q.E.D.

D.E.I. is obviously too much to ask. For hundreds of years Americans treated Blacks as chattel, then as subhuman, then as a group that shouldn’t be allowed in our restaurants or restrooms or be allowed to vote. Then we were suddenly expected to quit discriminating and give them a leg up. It actually went pretty well for a while there. I wish racism would crawl back under it’s rock, but that will have to wait until after this administration.

Michael Trigoboff said...

"Giving a leg up” by doing racial discrimination in a different direction is absolutely 100% too much to ask. Turning this country into a zero-sum racial war of the tribes is absolutely 100% too much to ask.

The goal should be a society in which skin color means exactly as little as hair color or eye color. You can't get there by continuing to racially discriminate but just picking a different direction to do it in.

Racial discrimination is wrong and socially destructivein any direction.

Michael Trigoboff said...

When affirmative action was first proposed, a promise was made that it would never turn into racial quotas. But that's exactly what liberals turned it into, once it was enacted.

They were tricky about it, using other words like “diversity” and "equity." But racial quotas are what they were really doing, and what they really wanted.

Mike said...

Trump's only qualification to be president was being the biggest blowhard in the racist birther movement. Racism is what got him elected. Let's not pretend that it's no longer a problem while he has an army of masked thugs abducting people of color off the streets.
