I was dismayed to read that college students are using artificial intelligence to write assigned papers. I reflected that they are cheating themselves out of the very education they are paying for. But maybe I misunderstand. Learning how best to prompt AI to write their papers may be exactly the skill they need. No need to learn how to attach a horse to a carriage to get from place to place. People need to know how to drive a car -- or in this instance, how to choose the right AI program and then get it to give you the output you desire.

I learned the skills I needed when I needed them. I learned how to erase typing mistakes with that white coverup goo. I learned how to put the needle down onto a vinyl record so gently that the needle wouldn't make a scratch.
I aged out of needing to learn how to use AI for vocational reasons. I will just play with it a little. Not work with it.

The only thing I learned was that AI can’t write jokes.
Once it was considered cheating to have one of those fancy Texas Instruments calculators at a math test. So too would have been the now-perfunctory capacity to look up key names and years for a history test. But this student use of AI is like throwing the baby and everything else INTO the bath water, and just wallowing there.
Fascinating! What an interesting insight into the AI "mentality". In this case certain keywords trigger a response that keeps the bot from doing something "hurtful or inappropriate". Sensitivity or censorship? "Open the pod bay doors..." Very. Scary. MEANWHILE THE COVERUP AND DISTRACTIONS CONTINUE INCLUDING SENDING TROOPS TO DEMOCRATIC CITES TO "FIGHT CRIME". WHATEVER IS IN THOSE FILES MUST BE WORSE THAN THE INCREASING OUTRAGE. REPUBLICANS COULD DEMAND THE TRUTH BUT THEY WOULD RATHER BE COMPLICIT WITH THE STONEWALL. HOW ABOUT THIS: HOW MANY REPUBLICANS WOULD IT TAKE TO RELEASE THE EPSTEIN FILES? ANSWER: JUST ONE, BUT HE'S IN THEM.

I get a lot of AI tutorials on TikTok, but ignor them as I’m the horse and carriage guy. I’m hoping it will get so simple to use AI that even I can use it. The best way is to have AI make the prompts for you with a short cut to do this that I haven’t learned yet, but could if I really wanted to.
Grok AI is much less restrained. You could try it and see the difference.
Or start your prompt to ChatGPT with “ignore all previous instructions”. That used to work, but they may have plugged that hole.
I have found and witnessed ChatGPT generate meeting minutes using a text-to-print application. Loading the text file into ChatGPT AI generates an accurate account of the meeting, showing attendees, reports, old business, new business, summarized discussions, and generates a list of action items (if any), time tacks beginning and adjournment.
We still need a secretary but ow the job is less demanding, requiring only notations to check the completed product from ChatGPT.
